Oak Forest Needs to Know About Flood Damage … Fast

The city wants residents and business owners to fill out a flood damage survey in order to help the state secure federal disaster relief funds. The deadline is noon Friday, April 26. Find out what you need to do.

Did your house or business suffer damage during last week's flooding? If so, the City of Oak Forest wants to know about it immediately.

The city needs residents and business owners with any flood damage to report the details and losses on the Oak Forest website by noon Friday, April 26, in order to meet state and regional deadlines, according to a press release. The collected information will be used by the State of Illinois to apply for federal aid, the release added.

Hard copies of the flood damage survey forms can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Oak Forest City Clerk's Office at City Hall, as well as anytime from the Oak Forest Police Department, the release stated. Completed forms can be dropped off at the counters of those locations, according to the release.

The information in these reports doesn't equate to filing a flood damage claim with any agency and doesn't guarantee government or insurance benefits, the release stated, adding that these reports are for tracking purposes for the city and state when it comes to federal assistance. Updates on the availability of and application for disaster relief funds will be posted on the city’s flood recovery web page if they materialize.

Oak Forest's offical flood recovery page also offers information on disposing of damaged items flooding clean-up tips, the release stated. When it comes to cleaning up, Nu-Way Disposal, the city's trash service provider, has not changed its schedule, and any flood-damaged items will be picked up during normal collection days.
