Illinois New Congressional Map Signed Into Law

Gov. Pat Quinn signs off on new congressional district map, Oak Forest remains in 1st congressional district.

Although Gov. Pat Quinn signed into law a new congressional district map for the state of Illinois, there won't be much of a change for Oak Forest. The new map takes into account the loss of one congressional seat due to slow population growth within the state.

The redrawn lines result in 18 congressional districts, instead of the previous 19 districts, and could affect political power with in Illinois, though if the move could be challenged.

Though Illinois will lose a seat in Washington D.C., Oak Forest will remain in the 1st Congressional District, represented by Democrat Bobby Rush. The 1st congressional district includes Oak Forest, Frankfort, Manhattan, Mokena, and parts of New Lenox and Orland Park, among other villages.
