Don't Toss that Toaster

No, really. You can't. As of Jan. 1, you're breaking a law if you dispose of your electronics with the rest of your household trash. Bremen Township offers two locations to drop off your outdated electronics.

residents looking to discard of outdated electronics will have to think twice before kicking the items to the curb.

As of Jan. 1, Illinois law made it illegal for residents to throw their electronics away with household trash.

As an alternative disposal method, VetTech, a company that assists veterans with career opportunities and helps the community by reusing/recycling e-waste, to open two permanent e-waste recycling locations.

"VetTech provides free computer training to all military veterans," said Tom Dubelbeis.  "The goal is to prepare military veterans for careers in the information technology industry."  "The training programs ... are funded through the recycling of no longer needed or wanted electronic waste, working or not."

The e-waste facilities, which are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. are:

"This is the perfect opportunity for residents of Bremen Township to get rid of their bulky old electronics that have been cluttering their homes while, at the same time, helping the environment," said Bremen Township Supervisor Maggie Crotty.

  • Electric Shavers - Fans
  • Fixtures - George Foreman Grills - Hair Dryers - Keyboards
  • Lamps - Magnetic Tape - Mice
  • Microwave Ovens - Monitors
  • Phone Systems - Phones
  • Power Tools - Radios
  • Record Players
  • Software - Stereos - Sump Pumps
  • Tape Decks - Televisions
  • Toasters - Vacuum Cleaners
