Dialysis Center Coming to Oak Forest

Construction has begun on a new dialysis center. The center is set to open in the Spring of 2013, and will be run by Fresenius Medical Care of North America.

Oak Forest is soon going to be home to a new state-of-the-art kidney dialysis center, as part of the redevelopment of the area near 159th Street and Lorel Avenue. The center, which will be run by Fresenius Medical Care of North America and will feature 12 dialysis stations in the facitility, located at 5340A W. 159th Street.

“Our plan has always been to redevelop this area and this is the first step in that process,” said Mayor Hank Kuspa in a press release. “It is an effort to increase the tax base in this city.”

This facility should do just that, said Oak Forest Community Development Director Adam Dotson. Dotson said that the facility has been more than 18 months in the making and will be a one-of-a-kind addition in the area.

“They're going to properly serve people in need in the area,” Dotson said. “The state certifies these facilities and limits where they can go, to ensure they don't overlap with one another and don't end up competing for the same patients.”

Dotson added that the certification process was one of the reasons it took 18 months for the facility to finally be approved.

He added that with groundbreaking done, the hope is that the facility will be done by the spring of 2013, with more development to follow in the area.

“We're hoping now that we can bring in a group to develop the rest of the property,” Dotson said. “The city believes the project could help get more development out there.”
