As the weather warms, that can only mean one thing for Illinois residents: road work season is officially right around the corner.
In Oak Forest, residents already know about the work scheduled to be done on Cicero Avenue in the coming months, but the city council also approved contracting Alpha Construction Company for $840,441.85 to work on 10 streets within the city.
"This year we've gone out to bid as we have traditionally with the road program," said Rich Rinchich, Oak Forest Assistant Director of Public Works. "Identifying roads that are the worst case priority across the community."
During the March 27 City Council meeting, aldermen approved the work on:Road From To Craig Fieldcrest (Frontage Road) Henry Ann Marie Andeline Natalie Carriage Way Ridgewood Landings Fern Central El Vista Hickory 157th Charleston Ridgewood 151st Carriage Way LeClaire 151st 149th Tudor Victoria Essex Latrobe 159th 161st Lamon 153rd 156th
Rinchich said that the bidding came in $189,558.15 under the projected budget for the road work. Mayor Hank Kuspa said that the city got such a good price because of how early the city went to the bid process.
Rinchich added that with the help of a $250,000, grant there is still $250,000 in Oak Forest's Motor Fuel Tax fund that could be spent on an additional street or two in the city.
The work is expected to begin in the next five to six weeks, once the contract has been signed by both parties.
