Aldermen OK Higher Permit Fees

Oak Forest residents who install swimming pools will be charged a reimbursable $150 retainer fee.

Oak Forest aldermen Tuesday night voted to increase some city permit fees.

The fees for installing asphalt or brick surfaces and gazebos will increase to $95 from $55.

Building Commissioner Gary Gerdes said the changes make fees consistent across the board.

Also under the code update, residents installing swimming pools will be charged a $150 retainer fee, which would be reimbursed within 30 days of the project's completion and final inspection.

Gerdes said the change would help ensure that pools are checked thoroughly before use. Many pools are installed and used without being inspected. Permit holders are required to call for the final inspection before the pool's use, but Gerdes said many do not.
