Aldermen, Long-time Priest Lauded for Contributions to Community

The Oak Forest City Council showed its appreciation for Aldermen Paul Wechet and Nancy Hullinger; long-time Catholic priest Fr. Francis Scanlan recognized for 50 years.

Ald. Nancy Hullinger (5th Ward) and Ald. Paul Wechet (7th Ward) received a fond send-off at the April 26 city council meeting.

Each received a proclamation in their name, a bouquet of flowers—and a round of applause.

"I have truly enjoyed sitting on the city council with Paul and Nancy," said Ald. Richard Simon. "And I'm sure I speak on behalf of the council when I say I will miss them."

Hullinger lost the April 5 election, and will be replaced by Daniel Ensing. Wechet, who decided to retire after 24 years as alderman, will be replaced by winning write-in candidate Mark Keating. Both will be sworn in May 10.

The council also commended Fr. Francis Scanlan, for his 50 years as a Catholic priest. Scanlan played a major role in the development of St. Damian Catholic parish—an Oak Forest cornerstone.

"I expect to see you all back here for my 100th," Fr. Scanlan told the council and audience members.
