Warning: Rabid Bat Found in Orland Park

Patch advises you to use caution in light of police identifying a rabid bat in nearby Orland Park.

On June 7, a bat was found dead in Doogan Park at Highland and Park Lane in Orland Park. An examination has determined the bat was rabid.

All residents are advised to keep their dogs, cats and ferrets on a leash when out of their homes. If your animal does not have a current rabies vaccination, have the pet inoculated with rabies vaccine.

You are advised not to handle any bats, skunks or other wild animals. If any bats or skunks are found down or dead on your property or roadway, please call the Cook County Department of Animal Control at (708) 974-6140.
