'Meter Man' Bike Fan

Police were notified of a stolen bike from a residence in the 15400 James Drive. The victim said that when he saw an African American male on the side of the house, he assumed the man was checking his electrical meter. However, the suspect suddenly jumped on the victim's bike and rode away.

Batter Up

Sylvester L. Joyce, Jr., 33, of the 15800 block of Terrace Drive, was arrested for aggravated assault following an altercation with two other men. The victims told police that Joyce ran a stop sign in the 5900 block of Corey Avenue, and after they yelled at him to slow down, he got out of his car and began to yell. They said Joyce left and came back, with a knife and baseball bat in his hand.

The victims told Joyce to get away while one was holding a tire iron; Joyce left the scene. Officers located Joyce and questioned him, before taking him into custody after locating the knife and bat in his car. Joyce is scheduled to appear in Brideview Court house on Sept. 18.

Keeping It in the Family

Police were notified of a theft of more than $300 by a resident in the 16400 block of Brockton Lane. The victim told police that somebody removed jewelry from the family home. The victim told police that it was believed one of the family's foster children may have committed the crime.

Police Blotter information is provided by the Oak Forest Police Department. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
