Trial Nears for 2009 Stabbing Case
The start of the trial of Derek Grib, the man accused of fatally stabbing Oak Forest teen Felix Jimenez in 2009, is scheduled to take place June 10–12.

The trial of Derek Grib, the man accused of stabbing and killing Jimenez at a party in July 2009, is finally set to start and run for three days in the first full week of June. Over the years, numerous delays—some caused by a backlog in Cook County murder trials—have kept Jimenez's family in a frustrating state of perpetual anticipation.
The trial is scheduled for June 10–12, and Jimenez's mother Teresa Diaz-Rivera said this time, it feels real.
"Relieved," she said, of how she's feeling with a month until the trial. "Just want justice."
Jimenez would be turning 24 on Aug. 1. Grib, who waived his right to a jury trial, is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing and killing Jimenez at a party in Oak Forest on July 12, 2009. Jimenez died shortly after midnight July 13, 2009.
