The head coach of a Bremen District 228 girls basketball team was charged with misdemeanor DUI earlier this month in Frankfort, according to police reports.

Hillcrest High School coach John Maniatis, 46, of the 400 block of Pleasant Hill Road in Frankfort, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. April 4, after police noticed erratic driving. He was also cited for improper lane usage and an improper turn at an intersection.

In addition to his role as coach, Maniatis also serves as a social studies teacher, Bremen District 228 Superintendent Bill Kendall told Sun-Times Media Monday. He has worked at the school, 17401 S. Pulaski Rd. in Country Club Hills, for nearly 20 years.

Disciplinary action had not been taken as of Monday.

An officer reportedly noticed the vehicle traveling 20 mph in a 40 mph zone, along with erratic driving, Frankfort Deputy Police Deputy Chief Kevin Keegan told Sun-Times Media.

Maniatis later failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

Is every person who is accused and or convicted of a DUI or criminal act going to have their work history displayed? I'm just curious to why the team/school was mentioned. It was him, not his job that didn't follow the law.

Don't feel sorry for this man. Personally he is not any man that should be around kids and setting an example. He is living 2 lives, that's probably why he was out drinking, trying to figure out how to cover his lies. FYI, it's not his first DUI either.

SLS it seems to me like you have way to much time on your hands a quite an obsession with this man. Why are you putting his business out there for the world to see? It has nothing to do with the article? You really need to get a life! How do you know that he shouldn't be around kids? And since when does what you do in your personal life have anything to do with how you act around kids or at your job? You act like you have never done anything wrong your whole life! Leave your negative comments else where and quit talking about irrelevant information. You sound like a teenager spreading rumors!
