South Suburban DUI Arrests, Feb. 24

MOKENA

Feb. 8: Taiwo Erinle, 32, of New Lenox, was found passed out at the wheel of his car with the engine running. The car was found at 3:45 a.m. Feb. 8 in the middle of two lanes of traffic on 191st St. at Wolf Road.

According to the report, police said Taiwo Erinle's foot was on the brake, but the car was in the drive position. He was passed out at the wheel with the windows rolled up and rap music blaring. 

The officer drove the squad about six inches in front of Erinle's car. He placed a push bar between the two bumpers to prevent Erinle's car from moving into traffic unexpectedly. 

Police say it took shining a flashlight into the vehicle, pounding on the window and yelling to stir Erinle from his stupor. When finally he did wake, the report states that he was dazed and confused. He had trouble shifting the car into park and rolling down the window. The report said he stumbled when he got out of the car. Open liquor was found in the car, according to reports. 

Erinle reportedly told police he'd had one beer. He was issued five citations for DUI and posted $100 bond. He was released, but the car was towed. 

NEW LENOX

Feb. 13: Daniel Wilson, 29, of the 100 block of Pottawatomie Lane, was pulled over for speeding and a registration violation at Harvey Street and Schoolhouse Road. According to the report, he was also driving under the influence.

Feb. 11: Simone Tolson, 30, Joliet, was stopped after midnight when police noticed her driving too slow at Gougar Road and Route 30. According to the report, after she failed to turn properly, police pulled her over discovered that she was driving under the influence. She was ticketed for DUI, an improper turn and driving an uninsured vehicle. 

Feb. 8: Police were notified by Silver Cross Hospital staff that Tracy Ferguson, 42, of the 1900 block of Spencer Road, was being treated for injuries sustained in an accident.  According to police she her car went off the road at Foxwood Lane and Laraway Road. A police investigation indicated that she had been drinking. She was ticketed for both violations and released.

OAK LAWN

Feb. 14:  An Oak Lawn police officer went to check the area of 95th Street and Kostner Avenue in response to a citizen's call of a reckless driver driving a Ford Explorer around 12:37 a.m., reports said. 

Police said the driver, identified as David Bradley, 33, of Chicago, did not have a valid driver’s license when he was pulled over in the 5200 block of West 95th Street. Bradley smelled of alcohol and had to be asked several times for his driver's license, according to the report.

After allegedly admitting to being “a little drunk” police said that Bradley had to lean on his car to keep his balance. Police said the citizen who phoned in the report positively identified the Ford Explorer as the vehicle seen being driven recklessly down 95th Street.

The Chicago man would not submit to field sobriety tests at the police station but agreed to take a Breathalyzer test, with a result of .218, reports said.

Bradley was charged with driving under the influence, DUI over .08 and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Feb. 10:  A man who said he had “two drinks” was charged with DUI when he was observed speeding and swerving near 94th Street and Cicero Avenue, reports said.

Oak Lawn Police said that Dennis Barrios, 41, of Crestwood, was going 54mph in a 35mph speed zone. Reports said the officer observed an open 12-pack of Miller beer and several empty beer cans on the back seat floor.

Barrios pulled several items out of his wallet before he located an ID card identifying himself. He told police that had been issued a ticket and did not have his driver’s license, reports said.

Asked if he’d been drinking, Barrios allegedly admitted, “a little bit.”

Police said refused to take a preliminary breath test or submit to one at the police station. Barrios was cited for DUI, speeding, operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to display a driver’s license and using a vehicle for illegal activities. His next court appearance is March 18.

ORLAND PARK

Jan. 28:  Police pulled over a car after seeing it cross over a lane line, drove through an intersection before the light turned green and drove over a curb while turning in the 10600 block of Rachel Lane around 2:35 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Mario A. Ramos, 27, of the 9800 block of El Cameno Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license, improper lane use, driving an uninsured vehicle and improper turning.

Jan. 27: Police pulled over a car for driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, and crossing over the center line in the 17000 block of LaGrange Road around 2:35 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, he admitted to drinking and failed field sobriety tests, police said. Frank E. Montantes, 32, of the 2500 block of Waterford Drive in Crest Hill, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use

Jan. 22: Police were called to a vehicle accident with injuries at 88th Avenue and 151st Street around 8:55 p.m. One car was facing north, blocking lanes of traffic in both directions on 151st Street, and had extensive front-end damage with airbags deployed, police said. The damaged car’s driver said he wasn’t sure of what happened, his breath smelled like alcohol and he admitted to drinking, police said. A witness said he was stopped at the intersection light facing west, and saw a car driving in the other westbound lane as if it was going to run the red light, and then he saw the crash, police said. The driver in the other car said she was struck from behind while parked at the light facing westbound, police said. Daniel Synnestvedt, 27, of the 18600 block of Collins Street in Tarzana, Calif., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

PALOS HEIGHTS

Feb. 12:  An Alsip woman allegedly had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit when she drove through multiple mailboxes, an AT&T utility box and fire hydrant, police said.

Angela J. Moller, 33, of the 5900 block of West 124th Street, Alsip, was charged Feb. 12 with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, failing to provide information after hitting a parked vehicle and driving without insurance, according to a Palos Heights police report. Officers said she tested at a blood-alcohol level of 0.236.

Moller reportedly drove her vehicle across several lawns near 12500 S. Melvina, striking mailboxes, a utility box, a fire hydrant and a car parked in a driveway, police said. A witness to the crash helped police find Moller, who allegedly fled the scene.

Moller was booked and given a $2,000 bond. She is due in court March. 19.

Feb. 9:  Jacob J. Reyling, 53, of the 24300 block of South 80th Avenue, Frankfort, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and improper lane use, according to a police report. Police said they stopped Reyling's vehicle for speeding and improper lane use at about 12:21 a.m. near 11900 S. Harlem Avenue. Reyling showed signs that he had been drinking, police said. He performed and failed field sobriety tests. Reyling was arrested, booked and given a court date of March 5.

Feb. 9: Jennifer M. Westlove, 32, of the 200 block of Meadowbrook Lane, Hinsdale, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and improper lane use, according to a police report. Police stopped Westlove at about 3:15 a.m. near 6300 W. 127th St. for speeding and improper lane use. Officers said the driver showed signs that she had been drinking. Westlove allegedly failed field sobriety tests. She was arrested, booked and given a $1,000 bond.

TINLEY PARK

Scott E. Willis, 45, of the 7700 block of W. 163rd Place, was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use, following a traffic stop Feb. 10 in the 7100 block of W. 171st Street, according to a Tinley Park Police report.

Officers stopped Willis after seeing the SUV he was driving strike a curb twice while driving, according to the report.

During the stop, officers noted Willis had an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Willis told officers he "had about five or six beers and was at home boozing," by himself before the stop. Willis failed field sobriety tests, according to the report.

Willis was taken into custody and transported to the Tinley Park police station. While being taken to the station, Willis told officers, "I know guys you work with, and this will be gone in the morning," according to the report.

At the station, Willis told officers he wouldn't provide a breath sample because he would, "blow that machine off the table," according to the report.

Willis was cited and released, pending a court date.
