A pair of man are in trouble with the law after cops found them with a stolen handgun.
Jonathan O. Olujimi, 24, of the 22100 block of Churchill, Richton Park, was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possessing a stolen firearm, not having a valid FOID card and possessing marijuana, according to an Oak Forest police report.
An officer saw a silver Dodge run a stop sign and fail to signal at about 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 16 at the intersection of Oak Avenue and 160th Street, police said. Cops stopped the car on 160th Street at Cicero Avenue and reportedly saw the front passenger, Irvin D. Wheeler, close the glove compartment.
While speaking with the driver, Olujimi, police could smell an odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the Dodge, the report states. Police asked the men to get out of the car, at which point Olujimi told police he had a small bag of weed on him. On Wheeler, cops found a one gram baggie of what field tested positive as marijuana. Both men were immediately arrested.
Police patted down Olujimi and found a black Ruger 9mm handgun loaded with six 9mm rounds tucked in his waistband, the report states. Cops found a silver .357 Taurus revolver loaded with four .38 special rounds and a clear plastic baggie that continued more of what field tested positive as marijuana in the vehicle, the report states.
A search determined that the .357 revolver was reported stolen from a Hammond, IN, robbery from March, the report states. Police also found that Wheeler had a revoked FOID card.
Wheeler, 23, of the 17700 block of John, Country Club Hills, was cited for possessing marijuana and several traffic violations.Police blotter information is provided by the Oak Forest Police Department.
