Police Net More than 120 Citations During Thanksgiving Traffic Watch

Oak Forest Police focused on seat belt enforcement, monitoring speed and preventing driving under the influence over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday and the days leading up to it, issued more than 120 tickets as part of a concentrated traffic enforcement campaign.

During the Thanksgiving holiday campaign—November 14 through November 27 —124 tickets were issued for not wearing seat belts, speeding, lack of insurance, and driving while under the influence.

“While the focus of the campaign is on seatbelt enforcement, many speeding tickets were also issued,” said Sergeant Dominic D’Ambrosio. “The overall intention of the program is to promote safe and responsible driving.”

The holiday enforcement campaign was the first in a six-part program funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) to promote traffic safety by conducting saturation patrols in pre-assigned areas. The STEP grant differs from previous grant awards because it has shorter intervals between campaigns.

The next campaign will be implemented between December 19 and January 1, 2012.
