Police Issue More than 140 Tickets over Christmas, New Year's Holidays

Most tickets were for not wearing seat belts, not securing a child, lack of insurance, and disobeying a police officer.

From Dec. 19, 2011 through Jan. 1, 2012, the issued 142 tickets as part of a traffic enforcement campaign funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). Tickets were issued for not wearing seat belts, not securing a child, lack of insurance, and disobeying a police officer.

“One of the goals of the program is to achieve a higher use of safety belts, child safety seats, booster seats, and motorcycle helmets through increased, highly visible enforcement,” said Sergeant Dominic D’Ambrosio.

The holiday enforcement campaign was the second in a six-part program to promote traffic safety by conducting saturation patrols in pre-assigned areas.
