Police Blotter: Two-Wheelin' and Dealin', Pole Pity

Oak Forest police reports, May 18–23.

FRIDAY, MAY 20

Two-Wheelin' and Dealin'

Police said they spotted a man on a bicycle exchanging money for a small plastic baggie. The man, who was later identified as Guy Nelson, 33, of the 19900 block of Anna Street in Mokena, was headed eastbound along 159th. After the handoff, he headed in the opposite direction. When the officer cut him off near 159th and Debra Lane, the suspect darted into oncoming traffic to avoid him and was nearly hit. When the officer confronted the man, the man shoved the plastic baggie into his mouth, telling the officer he was chewing "gum,"  according to reports. Nelson and the officer struggled, as the officer tried to keep him from swallowing the drugs. The officer tased him once for one second, in order to still him long enough for the arrest. The suspect said he swallowed the drugs for fear of being arrested, and that he has a young baby to care for, according to the report. He was charged with obstructing justice and resisting arrest.

Let's Take a Pole

Police were called to the scene at 159th and Cicero after witnesses said they spotted a silver car strike a pole and the driver try to flee the scene. Rami Rizk, 25, of 15700 block of Lake Drive in Oak Forest, began to cry as he told officers that he and his girlfriend had argued, and that he drank two beers and two shots, according to the report. Police charged him with DUI, damage to highway appurtenances and structures, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
