Police Blotter: Stolen Lawn Ornaments, Money, and Disorderly Conduct

Oak Forest Police reports, July 25–31.

SUNDAY, JULY 31

Lawn Ornament Thefts Reported

A resident in the 15400 block of South Betty Ann Lane reported that someone took a new decorative metal bench and a garbage can from the home overnight. A second resident reported that someone stole landscape lighting and a lawn ornament.

Disorderly Conduct

Bernard V. Phillips, 29, of the 16000 block of South LeClaire in Oak Forest, was charged with disorderly conduct. Police were called to the address after Phillips barricaded the front door around 5 a.m. after an argument with a woman, according to the report.

Damage to a Vehicle

A Midlothian woman reported that someone scratched her car while it was parked in the 5000 block of Langley Court between 8 a.m. July 30 and 2:30 p.m. on July 31, according to the report.

Keyed in Glue

A man reported scratches and key marks on his car and that someone had glued the driver's side keyhole shut while it was parked in a lot in the 4800 block of 157th Street overnight, according to the report. 

Gang Markings at Fierke School

Police noticed gang graffiti on the Fierke School playground, 6535 West Victoria Drive, just after 3 p.m.

FRIDAY, JULY 29

Animal Bite

A dog bit a woman in the 16500 block of Lockridge after the dog broke free of its owner around 5:15 p.m.

Theft

A resident in the 15600 block of Reynolds Lane reported that someone took $200 in rare coins from her basement between July 18 and 29, police said.

Warrant Served

Cody R. Fortney, 20, was arrested on an in-state warrant and charged with resisting arrest. Police went to the 15600 block of Lamon Avenue around 8 a.m. regarding a fight. According to the report, Fortney was beat up in a gang fight. Fortney was later placed under arrest for a parole violation, but attempted to break away from the arresting officer, police said. Fortney was later taken to Bridgeview Courthouse.

Brick Tossing

Nikolas Verdone, 22, of the 14600 block of Springfield Avenue in Midlothian, was charged with battery. Verdone threw a brick towards a victim around 9 a.m. in the 15700 block of Lamon Avenue. A day earlier, according to police, a man in the 15600 block of Lamon Avenue claimed that Fortney and Verdone had run towards his vehicles and yelled profanities at the man and began to flash gang signs and threw something at the man's vehicle.

Damaged Lawn Ornaments

A man in the 5300 block of Cresent Green noticed some lawn ornaments had been damaged sometime overnight.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 27

Stolen GPS and Bike

A resident in the 15400 block of David Lane reported that someone had taken his GPS from his unlocked car overnight. A man said that his son's bike had been stolen from a friend's residence in the 6000 block of West 157th Place between 7 and 8:30 p.m.

TUESDAY, JULY 26

Bricks Shatter Car Windshield

A resident in the 4300 block of Wagman reported that two large landscaping bricks had been used to shatter his windshield sometime over night. One of the bricks also caused damage to the hood.

MONDAY, JULY 25

Stolen Handicap Card

A man in the 4600 block of West 152nd Street reported that his handicapped placard had been stolen from his unlocked car between July 22 and July 25.

Bremen Township Office Broken Into

Someone broke into the Bremen Township office, located at 15350 Oak Park Avenue, overnight. The caller said that the rear door had been left unlocked and someone tried to gain entry into a second door by prying and kicking it. The offender(s) did not gain entry to the office, but did cause damage to the door.
