Police Blotter: Sticky Fingers at Walgreens, Stolen Snowblower

Oak Forest police reports, Jan. 17–23.

SATURDAY, JAN. 21

Sticky Fingers at Walgreen's

Two women were spotted stuffing cosmetics into their pockets and purse after discarding the packaging at an Oak Forest Walgreens. Police found cosmetics without their packaging in a purse belonging to Karla Schultz, 29, of the 16000 block of 91st Street in Orland Hills. Meanwhile, employees found a toilet clogged with what was presumed to be packaging from cosmetics found in the pockets of Tracy Mathis, 29, of 6400 block of 107th Street in Worth. Both women were charged with one count each of retail theft and given a March 15 court date.

Stolen Snowblower

Three men are suspected of stealing a snowblower from an apartment complex in the 15900 block of LeClaire. Video shows the three taking the blower out of the buildin, loading it into a red truck and driving away.

FRIDAY, JAN. 20

Robber Dupes Elderly Woman

A man who claimed to be a woman's neighbor convinced her to let him inside her home and then ransacked her room when her back was turned, she told police. The 69-year-old woman told police the man asked her to wait on her porch while he checked on her electric and then took $200 in cash from her dresser drawer. She did not notice anyone with him or a car to describe for police.

Grabbed Gift Cards and Ran

Jewel employees spotted two men grabbing Visa gift cards and leaving the store without paying, though one bought a pair of slippers first, employees told police. Employees saw the men get into a red car and flee the scene. Employees later identified Phillip Thompson, 24, of the 15600 block of Paulina in Harvey as one of the men responsible for stealing the 14 gift cards. Separately, police stopped Daniel Watkins, 23, of the 7800 block of Eberhart in Chicago, for speeding. Eberhart was driving the car used to flee the scene, but was not identified as one of the men who stole the gift cards. Thompson was charged with retail theft and released on bond. Watkins was charged with speeding and driving while license suspended.

THURSDAY, JAN. 19

Looted Lockbox

Someone stole a 1/2-carat diamond ring, and an engagement/wedding ring set from a woman's lockbox, she told police. The theft occurred between August and December, she told police. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at $13,000.

TUESDAY, JAN. 17

Peeping Tom

A man has repeatedly been seen peering into a woman's window in the 15300 block of Kilpatrick, and the man also followed the woman from her apartment and onto a bus, the woman told police. The woman identified the man, and police advised him to leave her alone. He agreed.
