Police Blotter: Roommate Spat, Stolen Ashtray, Pouting Puppy

Sunday, Feb. 27

Roommate Spat

Police received two calls to the Rustic Oaks apartment building, where two female roommates couldn't get along. Earlier in the day, police said, the girls argued over the use of the TV, which led to a shoving match and punches thrown. Police separated the two, advising them to keep their distance, according to reports. Later, police received calls of criminal damage to property, as one roommate suspected the other of ripping her clothes off the hangers, dousing them in bleach, cutting the cords to her DVD player and TV and breaking her Toshiba laptop in half.

Drive and Weave

Police responded to calls of a drunken driver near 167th and Cicero Avenue. Kenneth Schultz, 33, of the 15400 block of Cherry Lane in Oak Forest, was spotted weaving between lanes after a wide, sweeping right turn, police said. The witness also saw him strike a curb. When police stopped him, he refused a field sobriety test. He was cited with DUI, improper turn, no proof of insurance, improper lane usage and violation of the seizure/impound ordinance.

Saturday, Feb. 26

Failure to Stop, Possession of Pot

Police pulled over Joseph Porter, 21, of the 800 block of East Grand Ave., Carbondale, after he disregarded a stop sign at 158th and LeClaire Avenue. Police said he could not produce a driver's license or proof of insurance. After he was arrested, the officer conducted an inventory of the car and found a bag of a leafy green substance in the center console. The substance was believed to be cannabis. Porter was cited with disobeying the stop sign, no insurance, driving while license suspended and possession of cannabis.

Found Wallet

A man reported that he had found a black leather wallet at intersection of Victoria Drive and Ridgeland Avenue. The wallet contained an Oak Forest High School ID card, Financial Bank card, TCF Bank card, Jewel Osco card and Illinois driver's license.

Friday, Feb. 25

Hit and Run

Police responded to call of traffic accident involving two cars at the intersection of 159th and Cicero. When police arrived, only one driver was there. Police were told one car had pulled into the intersection on a yellow light and the other driver pulled out in front of him. The driver who pulled out in front of the first left the scene, leaving the car behind. When police contacted the owner of the abandoned vehicle, the owner said he had reported the car stolen earlier that day to Orland Park police.

Special Delivery

A woman told police that someone struck her mailbox in the 15100 block of LaCrosse, leaving a trace of yellow paint and knocking the mailbox off its post.

Puppy in Parked Car

Police responded to a call of a dog left in a parked vehicle for extended period of time in the 15300 block of Knox. The officer arrived on the scene to find a puppy in the car—it was cold, snowing and the dog was barking, according to reports. Car records indicated owner lived in the building. The officer knocked on his door, could not get man to respond, and saw him lying face down on his bed.  The officer spotted cannabis and a glass pipe, and called for additional unit. The officer awakened the tenant and told him about the puppy in the car. The man, Dustin Mathews, 27, of Oak Forest, said he was going to bring the puppy inside shortly. He was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

Stolen Cents, Burglarized Butts

A man in the 11500 bock of Joalyce in Alsip told police someone stole various denominations of change and an ashtray of cigarette butts valued at $2.

Missing Guard-Cats

A woman told police that someone stole two, 18-inch cement lions from her front yard in the 16100 block of Brenden Lane. Each weighed 100 pounds, and one has a chip in its left ear. They are valued at $300.
