Police Blotter: More Car Burglaries, Retail Theft

Oak Forest Police Reports, June 27 to July 4

MONDAY, JULY 4

Damage to Vehicle

A woman reported that eggs had been thrown at her vehicle while parked in her driveway in the 15300 block of Kenton Avenue in the early morning hours. The woman said this has happened six or seven times in the past 30 days, police said.

Damage to Vehicle

A South Carolina woman told police she noticed a large rock near her car and thought it caused a fresh dent, according to the report. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Massasoit in the overnight hours.

Retail Theft

Paris Baker, 33, of the 500 block of West Monroe Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft, and Julian Velez, 35, of the 700 block of South Wall Street in Carbondale, was charged with possession of stolen property. Loss prevention at Jewel, 5616 159th Street, saw Baker leave the store without paying for some hot wings and potato wedges around 6 p.m., according to the report. During the stop, police found that the license plate on Velez's car had been stolen from another car. Both men were released on bond.

Theft

Police went to the 15600 block of Latrobe Avenue after the resident reported that someone had taken a company truck between July 2 at 9 a.m. and  July 3 at 10 a.m. after leaving a siding job to get some supplies, according to the report.

Criminal Damage to Property

Jill C. Holzman, 21, of the 15200 block of Midlothian Turnpike in Midlothian, was arrested for criminal damage to property. After a verbal argument, Holzmann began to kick a man's vehicle in the 15300 block of Laramie Avenue shortly after midnight, and the kicking left dents, police said.

SATURDAY, JULY 2

Financial ID Theft

A man in the 15100 block of Hillside Avenue reported that someone had used his debit card without his permission. The incident happened between June 24 and June 28, according to the report.

Burglary from Car

A man in the 5700 block of Dover Road reported that sometime overnight, someone stole a wallet from his unlocked car.

Resisting Arrest

Erik Armstrong, 34, of the 4500 block of Rumsey in Oak Lawn, was charged with resisting arrest and cited for public intoxication. Police were responding to an accident at the intersection of 153rd and Cicero Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Police said Armstrong was walking through the accident scene yelling "Heil Hitler" and insulting officers. Armstrong was told to leave the scene, but refused, police said. He was taken into custody until he sobered up and was released on bond.

Burglary

Police responded to Rose Liquor's, 4142 167th Street, after a burglary alarm had been activated. The officer saw that the glass door had been shattered and noticed around 40-45 bottles of liquore were missing. Police found shoeprints and a pillow case full of broken bottles, police said.

Alcohol Violations

David B. Denton, 18, and Brittany M. Howe, 18. both of the 14900 block of South Central Park Avenue in Midlothian, were both cited for underage consumption of alcohol along with a 17 year old male. Three people were seen walking in the 14700 block of Laramie Avenue around 2:45 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol on their breath and all three were issued tickets. The 17 year old was also issued a ticket for violating curfew.

FRIDAY, JULY 1

Burglary from Car

Police went to the 15500 block of Lockwood Avenue after a man reported a cell phone had been taken from his car sometime in the overnight hours.

Stolen Vehicle

An Oak Forest man reported his car had been stolen from the Oak Forest Metra station at 157th and Cicero between 5:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

Domestic Battery

Maria G. Rodriguez, 18, of the 15400 block of Ridgeland Avenue in Oak Forest, was charged with domestic battery.  Rodriguez had punched a man after an argument around 11 p.m., according to the report. 

Retail Theft

A manager with CVS, 15840 Cicero Avenue, reported that a man had filled a hand basket with liquor bottles and left without paying around 11:45 a.m.

THURSDAY, JUNE 30

Residential Burglary

A resident in the 6300 block of Brett Drive reported that between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., someone had entered and ransacked the home, police said. The victim said that her jewelry was missing and that a 200 pound safe had been removed from the home. Neighbors reported nothing unusual during the day, police said.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29

Retail Theft

A witness called police after seeing two people in the CVS at 15840 Cicero Avenue fill a hand basket with liquor bottles and leave without paying around 8:30 a.m.

Burglary from Car

A Midlothian woman reported that shortly before 6:45 a.m., someone took her purse from her unlocked car while it was parked at Triple R Daycare, 5500 147th St. Her bank card was used at a nearby gas station, police said.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28

Burglary From Car

A man in the 15700 block of Terrace Drive reported that between midnight and 9:30 a.m. on June 28, someone had taken his drill and other tools from his car. The passenger's side lock had been damaged, police said.

MONDAY, JUNE 27

Attempted Burglary

A man in the 15700 block of Peggy Lane saw that a lock cylinder was missing from the rear door of his van after being woken up around 2 a.m. by the van's alarm. Nothing was taken from the van, police said.

Burglaries to Cars

  • A man in the 15100 block of Central Avenue reported that some time in the overnight hours, someone took his iPod from his unlocked car, police said.
  • A man in the 15700 block of Peggy Lane reported that some time overnight, someone had broken in to his van and taken a bag containing various tools, police said.
  • A man in the 5900 block of Liberty Square reported that some time between 7 p.m. Sunday, June 26, and 3:15 p.m. June 27, someone took cash and two passports from the victim's unlocked car.
