Police Blotter: More Burglaries, Theft in Oak Forest

Oak Forest Police reports, Aug. 7–14.

SUNDAY, AUG. 14

Burglary

A resident in the 15300 block of Alameda Avenue reported that several power tools were stolen from his garage on Aug. 13 between 8 a.m and 6 p.m. The resident left his overhead garage door open, according to the report.

Police Tase 'Suspicious' Person

Javier Tepetl, 21, of the 15800 block of LeClaire Avenue in Oak Forest, was charged with resisting an officer and issued a citation for public intoxication. A resident in the 15800 block of LeClaire Avenue reported a man with a gun in the area at 2:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they saw a group of five men. They were only able to apprehend Tepetl after using a Taser as he began to flee. No gun was found at the scene, police said.

Domestic Battery

Miguel Cruz, 20, of the 5000 block of 159th Street in Oak Forest, was charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property. A woman reported that Cruz had kicked in the door with his foot and struck her in the face with an open hand at the address at around 11:30 p.m.

Theft

Kaylie J. Cobban, 19, of the 5000 block of 157th Street in Oak Forest, was charged with theft. A man told police he saw Cobban taking money from the register on surveillance video around noon. The video also showed Cobban taking the money on Aug. 11, according to the report. Cobban was released on bond.

FRIDAY, AUG. 12

Theft

A resident in the 4900 block of Sycamore Lane reported his wallet was stolen sometime between Aug. 11 or Aug. 12, police said.

Burglary from Car

A couple in the 4900 block of West Forest Court reported both of their vehicles had been left unlocked in the overnight hours and someone stole iPods, gym bags, portable DVD players, a Coach purse, a Kindle, and golf clubs and bags, according to the report.

Theft

A resident in the 5700 block of Lancaster Avenue reported that someone broke into the home and stole money and car wash tickets from a wallet and a pack of cigarettes just before 3 a.m, according to the report.

Criminal Trespass

Roman Mroz, 35, of the 5700 block of Dover Road in Oak Forest, was charged with criminal trespassing. Mroz was at El Morro Park, 15500 Arroyo Dr., at noon after being told to not enter any Oak Forest Park District property on July 1.

Theft at Walgreen's

The manager of Walgreen's, 5525 W. 159th St., reported the theft of 10 shopping carts between Aug. 10 and 12, police said.

THURSDAY, AUG. 11

Burglary from Car

A resident in the 16400 block of Harold Street reported that his car radio was stolen overnight. The resident saw two screwdrivers that did not belong to him in his car.

Burglary from Convenient Food Mart

A burglar alarm at Convenient Food Mart, 15103 Cicero Ave., was tripped between 12:45 and 1 a.m. When officers arrived, they saw the front door broken out and the cash register pried open. An employee said $300 was missing from the register as well as an unknown number of cigarettes, according to the report.

Damage to Harold's Chicken

While cleaning up after closing, an employee at Harold's Chicken, 4142 167th St., saw a man kick and shatter the glass door at 12:45 a.m. He then fled down the street.

Zero Tolerance

Sarah E. Tannehill, 19, of the 7900 block of 163rd Court in Tinley Park, was charged with violating the zero tolerance alcohol law, speeding, and driving without insurance. An officer on patrol in the 15499 block of Central Avenue saw Tannehill going 49 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone at 2 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol on Tannehill's breath. Tannehill was later released on an I-Bond.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 10

Warrant Served

Frank J. Ayed, 22, of the 15700 block of Terrace Drive in Oak Forest, turned himself into police after a domestic incident at 12:30 a.m. A name check revealed a warrant in Will County for an unknown charge. Ayed was released on bond.

TUESDAY, AUG. 9

Criminal Damage

Someone shattered all 10 panes of glass surrounding the pay boxes at the Metra Lot, located at 15900 Grove Ave. The incident occurred between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Liquid Damage

A resident in the 5700 block of Dover reported that someone entered her home and dumped her belongings on her bed and poured liquid on them some time overnight.

SUNDAY, AUG. 7

Retail Theft

Anthony N. Plese, 36, of the 3400 block of Hazel Lane in Hazel Crest, was charged with retail theft and resisting an officer. Loss prevention at Jewel-Osco, 5616 159th St., saw Plese remove four bottles of liquor and take them out of the store without paying at 3:30 p.m. Officers caught up with Plese as he was fleeing down Central Avenue. Once Plese had stopped, he fled into the woods in the 16900 block of Central. Officers were able to apprehend Plese and the Assistant State's Attorney approved felony charges, according to the report.
