Police Blotter: Looted Liquor, BMX Burglary, He Cannot Tell a Lie

MONDAY, MAY 16

Abducted Angel

Someone stole a lawn decal of an angel sitting on a white bench and an iron bench with a boy and girl sitting on it, both valued at $120 from the front yard of a home in the 5700 block of Albert Drive.

A Busted-Up Car and Missing Bucks

After the employees at Gerber Collision, 7041 153rd St., fixed up his car, a man cheated the company of $1,627.53, a company rep told police. The insurance claim was reported to AllState earlier, and the company cut the man a check for part of the cost, Gerber employees told police. The man was to pay the difference. He has not.

SATURDAY, MAY 14

Looted Liquor in a Stolen Prius

Two men ducked out of the Cicero Avenue CVS with a shopping cart-load of stolen liquor, including:  6 bottles of Red Label ($21.99 each), 2 bottles of Paul Mason brandy (valued at $11.49), 4 bottles of Glenlivet Scotch ($37.99 each), 4 bottles of Jose ($36.49 each), and 8 bottles of Jose (valued at $17.49 each). The cashier saw the men hop in a silver Prius, which police discovered had been stolen from DeKalb after running a check on the license plate.

FRIDAY, MAY 13

He Cannot Tell a Lie ...

Someone scratched the word "Lies" into the the passenger and driver's side front windows, rear passenger window and rear window, on a car parked in the 16100 block of LaTrobe Avenue.  The car's owner told police he suspects an acquaintance of his girlfriend. The man recently received texts from the man he believes is responsible, he told police.

Once Was Not Enough

After police brought in Joseph Mikos, 55, of 5120 Shadow Creek Dr. on charges of public intoxication for causing a disturbance at Cindy's Pub, he caused a ruckus while awaiting his release in the lobby. A video camera recorded Mikos kicking a poster near city hall, then attempting to urinate on the doors to city hall, police said. When he was confronted by an officer, he fell over and landed on the ground. He was asked to leave, became combative and whipped a bag containing a hard object, hitting the officer in the upper chest and face. He was arrested and jailed to await processing. Police said he was too combative to process. He was also charged with battery and is due in court on June 6.

Was the Knife Pointing Outward?

Oak Forest Police were called to help Cook County with a report of a man found passed out on a walking path, holding a knife. It took police three tries to wake the man, even after officers pried the knife out of his hand. After waking him, police were able to learn he was at a friend’s house for most of the night and had been drinking. His eyes were watery, speech was slurred, and he was unable to stand without support, according to reports. He had a fresh cut on one hand, with fresh blood. Police know of several auto burglaries in the area, and blood was found in some of the victims' vehicles.

TUESDAY, MAY 10

BMX Burglary

A man told police his FBM Deployer bike was taken from his garage, around 8 p.m. that night. The bike was forest green with brown forks, green grips, and the seat was yellow foam. The bike is valued at $1,700.
