Police Blotter: Drug Paraphernalia Bust, Stolen Vehicles, DUIs

Oak Forest police reports, Sept. 22–25.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 25

DUI

Anselmo C. Cordero, 25, of the 18300 block of LeClaire Avenue in Country Club Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. An officer on patrol saw Cordero turn from 163rd Street onto Central Avenue without a turn signal around 3:15 a.m., according to the report. The officer smelled alcohol on Cordero's breath, and Cordero's blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit, according to the report. Cordero was issued additional charges for driving without a valid license, said.

Retail Theft

Noreen M. Hambrick, 47, of the 13000 block of South Park Court in Crestwood, was charged with felony retail theft. An employee at Jewel, 5616 159th St., reported seeing Hambrick walk to the liquor aisle and conceal three bottles of liquor in a handbag around 1:15 a.m. When Hambrick went to pay for other items, she told the cashier she would be right back, but instead she fled the store, according to the report. Hambrick was apprehended a few blocks down the street, police said. Felony charges were approved based on prior convictions.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 24

Drug Paraphernalia

Taylor D. Bukala-Hansen, 18, of the 6300 block of Catalina Drive in Oak Forest, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and Bradley A. Bartkus, 18, of the 300 block of North State Street in Chicago, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers saw a car parked in the 15300 block of Natalie Drive with four people inside around 11 p.m. The officers smelled cannabis coming from the car, according to the report. A multi-colored glass pipe was found during a search of Bukala-Hansen. Several bags, two digital scales with cannabis residue, cigarette papers, and plastic paper rollers were later found in the car, according to the report. The other two passengers were released without charges.

Stolen Vehicle

A Bourbonnais man reported his white 2000 Chevy Astro van was stolen. The man met with his fiancee at Food 4 Less, 5556 159th St., around 6 p.m., the couple went to dinner, and when they returned at 8 p.m., they could not find the van, police said.

DUI

Richard Lyons, 25, of the first block of West 113th Place in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers responded to reports of a man sleeping behind the wheel of his car at 167th Street and Cicero Avenue at 12:45 a.m. After the officer awoke Lyons, the officer smelled alcohol on Lyons' breath, police said. Lyons was also issued tickets for improper parking on the roadway and failure to wear seatbelt, police said.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 23

Theft

A resident in the 5000 block of W. 159th Street reported that his cell phone and $100 had been stolen. A friend visited the resident around 5 a.m., and the phone and cash were missing after the friend left at 8 a.m., according to the report.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 22

Stolen Vehicle

A resident in the 15400 block of Betty Ann Lane reported that his 1996 Chevy Caprice was stolen. The man told police he had listed the car for sale on CraigsList and that two men had come to his home around 5:30 p.m. to take the car for a test drive. The car the men arrived in and left behind, a 2004 Chevy Impala, had temporary floor mats, and plates on the Impala showed they belonged to another car, according to the report. The Impala was suspected as stolen from a car dealership, police said.

Warrant Arrest

Erik A. Moore, 20, of the 15600 block of South Lamon Avenue, was arrested on an in-state warrant. Police were called to the Oak Forest Park District building parking lot regarding a suspicious group of people passing something to each other around 4:30 p.m. The object was a cigarette, according to the report. A name check of the group members revealed a DuPage County warrant for failure to appear. Moore was unable to post bond and was transported to DuPage County, police said.
