Police Blotter: Day Care Center Burglarized, Kitchen Cabinets Ransacked

Oak Forest police reports for July 23 & 27.

MONDAY, JULY 23

Day Care Center Burglarized

An employee at Acorn Child Care reported a break-in on July 23, according to an Oak Forest police report. Sometime between 11:30 p.m. July 22 and 5:44 a.m. July 23 a window at the daycare center was smashed with a rock. All the cabinets in the kitchen appeared to have been searched. Some food was missing. A blue money bag containing $50 was stolen from a desk drawer, as was a radio that was kept in the day care’s main room. No arrests were reported.

$3,200 Worth of Jewelry Reported Stolen

A homeowner in the 15500 block of Lorel Avenue told police that several pieces of men’s and women’s jewelry, totaling more than $3,200, went missing sometime between 9:50 a.m. July 22 and 9:50 a.m. July 23. A door to the house was left unlocked while workers hired by the homeowners were replacing flooring. No arrests were reported.

FRIDAY, JULY 27

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Arrest

Leonard J. Hammond, 35, of 15706 S. Independence Ct. No. 1S in Oak Forest was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police were investigating a report of someone who resembled a burglary suspect when they approached Hammond. He submitted to a search, during which an officer allegedly found a “hitter box.” Hammond was arrested and issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.
