Police Blotter: Children Removed from Home; 'Spidey' in Oak Forest?

Oak Forest police reports, May 24–31.

FRIDAY, MAY 27

Smuggled Vodka, Packed Purse, Crack Pipe

Officers were called to Jewel on reports of a possible retail theft in progress. The officer saw the car in question headed westbound on 159th Street. As the officer signaled the driver to pull over,  he reportedly saw Erin Kelly and Jason Shaughnessy in the car passing items between them, bending down, "presumably placing items under the seats." A search turned up an unopened bottle of vodka (suspected to have been stolen from Jewel), a pink purse containing six hypodermic needles, eight small baggies, two spoons and what is believed to be a crack pipe. Video surveillance tape was inconclusive on whether the two stole anything. Kelly, 22, and Shaughnessy, 30, both of the 14300 block of Springfield in Midlothian, were charged with violation of seizure/impoundment ordinance and possession of drug paraphernalia, respectively.

I Spy 'Spidey' in Oak Forest?

A man jumping from roof to roof in his neighborhood alarmed neighbors, who called police to the scene. Police said he appeared to be suffering an emotional breakdown, rambling about demons and warlocks in several different languages. The suspect reportedly said he had just been released from Tinley Park Mental Health Center. He eventually calmed down, and agreed to be taken to South Suburban Hospital. No charges were filed.

Police Blotter information is provided by law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
