Police Blotter: Caught Green-Handed, Busted Bus Windows, Shattered Shelter

Oak Forest Police Reports, June 14-19.

SUNDAY, JUNE 19

Driving While Scorned

Police were called to the 4800 block of 157th Street because a caller said a man was being chased by a woman in her car just before 10 p.m. Brandi R. Sumowski, 26, was charged with reckless driving. Sumowski was in an argument with the victim and became irate. Later, she got in her car and sped toward the victim, police said. The victim was hit in the ankle, but did not require medical attention.

Counterfeit C-Note

Police were called after a customer tried to purchase a soda with a counterfeit $100 bill at Eddy's Tobacco and Liquor, 6072 159th Street. Police did not arrest the customer.

Leaving the Cars Unlocked

While police were responding to a car fire in the 15700 block of Lamon, the homeowner reported that the other two cars on her property had been entered. Twelve CD's were stolen from one of the cars. The victim said the cars were left unlocked and that the thefts occurred between June 18 at 10 a.m. and June 19 at 12:52 a.m, according to the report.

Shattered Shelter

Police on patrol in the Metra Lot at 15700 Cicero Ave. discovered that the glass on the shelter that houses the pay box had been shattered and that the light panel and light bulbs had been damaged during the overnight hours. Police do not have suspects at this time.

SATURDAY, JUNE 18

Retail Theft

Police said a man walked into Jewel-Osco at 5616 159th St. and walked out with an unknown amount of merchandise around 5 a.m. Police have a description of the car.

Attempted Burglary

Between 5 p.m. on June 17 and 8:30 a.m. on June 18, someone tried to enter Full Serv Auto, 15436 Cicero Ave. The owner reported that a back steel door had been peeled back. There was an inner steel fencing that prevented the burglars from entering the business, police said. Police do not have any suspects at this time.

Calling it Close

Just three days after after serving three months for violating an order of protection, Steven J. Vadiver, 40, of the 8600 block of West 85th Street in Justice, was charged with violating an order of protection. Vandiver made phone calls to an Oak Forest woman and left rambling messages between about 7 and 9:45 a.m., police said. This violated the terms of the order. 

Busted Bus Windows

An officer on patrol saw flashing lights on a bus on the grounds of Blarney Stone Pub, 15400 Cicero Ave. The officer saw that six total windows on the bus had been broken with rocks. A bar employee suspected two people that had been thrown out of the bar that evening. The incident happened some time between 12 a.m. and 2:20 a.m.

A witness called police after he saw two men attempt to break a window at Proline, 15540 Cicero Ave., with a rock around 1:20 a.m.

FRIDAY, JUNE 17

Caught Green-Handed

An officer on surveillance at the Citgo, 5347 159th St., saw a car pull into the gas station and park. At 4:50 p.m., a juvenile approached the car and handed money over to Paul M. Humikowski, 19, of the 2800 block of West 149th Street in Posen. Humikowski then handed a large bag of cannabis to the juvenile, police said. Both men were cited and released.

Domestic Battery and Criminal Damage to Property

Kandace L. Pierce, 21, of the first block of East 103rd Place in Chicago, was charged with domestic battery. According to the report, a caller reported two people arguing in the 4800 block of West 157th Street. The caller said that Pierce was punching and scratching the male victim after an argument. The victim had said the argument was about a Link card and that Pierce had tried to enter the apartment between 10 and 10:45 a.m. She was taken to Bridgeview for a bond hearing.

THURSDAY, JUNE 16

Possible Identity Theft

A man from the 14900 block of Sunrise Drive reported that someone had made an unauthorized $500 withdrawl from his checking account between Friday, June 15 at noon and June 16 at 4:15 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15

Order of Protection Violated

Police were called to the 5100 block of Shadow Creek because someone saw a man tampering with cars in the parking lot around 8 p.m. Joseph W. Mikos, 55, of the 5100 block of Shadow Creek in Oak Forest, had violated an order of protection by being on the premises, police said.

Throwing Rocks

Police were called to the 5200 block of Harcourt because a man was chasing a woman with his car. Joshua Fernandez, 23, of the 5200 block of Harcourt in Oak Forest was charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property. After an argument around 2:30 p.m., Fernandez threw the victim to the ground and later pushed her. The victim began to fight back and throw rocks. Fernandez than threw a rock at the victim's car and broke the passenger window, police said. The victim was treated at South Suburban Hospital for her injuries. Fernandez was taken to Bridgeview for a bond hearing.

Tires Flattened

Police were called to the 4600 block of West 153rd Street after a woman reported that the front tires on both of her cars had been damaged between 1:30 and 2:15 a.m. She alleges that her girlfriend damaged the tires, police said.

SUNDAY, JUNE 12

Drive-Thru Throw Down

Orland Park police were called to White Castle, 15801 Harlem Ave., regarding a fight in the drive-thru around 3:20 a.m. According to the report, Steven B. Schemeski, 24, of the 6900 block of Westview Drive in Oak Forest, and a man were waiting in the drive-thru. The man left the car and went inside to order food. A witness then told the man that the driver, Schemeski, appeared to be asleep at the wheel, according to the report. The man then ran outside and was confronted by a man and woman. An employee said that he did not hear what caused the fight, but saw the couple attacking the man, according to the report. The two attackers left the scene, police said. Schemeski was later charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drug equipment and possession of cannabis. Schemeski was released on bond pending a Bridgeview court date.
