Police Blotter: Animals Left in Vacant Home

MONDAY, AUG. 29

DUI Over the Limit

Bradley A. Wise, 27, of the 2000 block of Edgeview in New Lenox, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level over 0.08. An officer on patrol in the 5200 block of 167th Street saw Wise traveling at 62 mph in a 35 mph zone at 1:20 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol on Wise's breath, and Wise failed field sobriety tests, the report said. A breath test determined that Wise’s blood alcohol level was .204—over twice the legal limit. Wise also was issued traffic tickets for speeding and improper signaling.

Braun School Window Shattered

Sometime between Aug. 26 and Aug. 29, someone shattered a window near one of the entry doors at Braun School, 6020 W. 151st St. The school is reviewing security footage for possible suspects.

SUNDAY, AUG. 28

Bicycle Thief

A resident in the 15800 block of Peggy Lane reported her daughter's bicycle had been stolen from under the stairs at the condo building between Aug. 26 and Aug. 28.

Church Break-in

Someone broke into the Valley Kingdom Church, 5217 149th St., sometime overnight Saturday. The church's janitor arrived at 6:30 a.m. and saw that some glass had been cut from a door and removed. The janitor said the church's alarm was not set. Another church member told police that nothing was missing or had been disturbed.

SATURDAY, AUG. 27

Bomb Threat at Bar

Joseph W. Mena, 50, of the 5100 block of 159th Street, was charged with disorderly conduct. Police were called at around 3:30 p.m. to Marcotte's Bar and Grill, 15501 Cicero Ave., after a witness said Mena entered the bar and made a bomb threat. The witness said Mena was carrying a blue duffle bag and appeared extremely intoxicated.

FRIDAY, AUG. 26

Guardrail Damaged

Someone hit and damaged a galvanized guardrail in the 15500 block of Waverly Avenue between Aug. 12 and Aug. 26, police said. The offending car was not at the scene.

Pets Left in Vacant House

Police were called to the 15900 block of Grove Avenue regarding a dog barking from inside a vacant house at 8:45 a.m. When police entered the house, a St. Bernard dog and two cats were inside. The officer saw that some food and water had been left for the animals, but the litter box was full and cat and dog urine and feces were all over. The animals were taken to an animal control facility.

Cable Theft

An AT&T employee reported that a cable was damaged and stolen from the corner of Willowick and Fieldcrest drives between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. The length of phone and Internet cable was "probably stolen for the copper," according to the report. The cost to replace the cable was estimated at $3,000.

THURSDAY, AUG. 25

Burglaries From Vehicles

  • A resident in the 14800 block of Jean Court reported a camera and floor jack were missing. The resident said his car may have been unlocked overnight.
  • A resident in the 17000 block of Sycamore Lane reported someone stole a GPS and portable radio from an unlocked car sometime overnight.

Attempted Burglary

A resident in the 5500 block of Ann Marie reported that someone removed a lock from the fence gate and placed it on the fence between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Jeep Stolen

A resident in the 4900 block of 149th Street said his 1995 Jeep was stolen from his driveway between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. The victim said he may have left his keys inside the car.

Theft in the Park

A woman reported someone had stolen an iPod Touch between Aug. 20 and Aug. 25 while the victim was in Central Park, 15600 Central Ave. The suspect downloaded two games from the iTunes store, but the victim was not out any money, according to the report.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 24

Garage Burglary

A resident in the 16300 block of Terry Lane reported his garage was robbed overnight. The unknown offender stole DJ equipment from the garage, police said.

Change Stolen from Home

A resident in the 16100 block of Grove Avenue reported that about $100 in change had been stolen from his home. The resident answered the door at 3 p.m., and a man told the resident he needed to check out the electric lines in the back yard. The two went to the backyard. After the resident asked for a business card, the "power line worker" said he had to leave and got into a beige car and left. The theft was discovered later.

Theft from Car

A resident in the 5000 block of West 159th Street reported someone stole his wallet containing cash and an ID between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Screen Window Cut

A resident in the 5400 block of Natalie Drive reported someone cut a screen window near a door lock between 7:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. The resident said no entry was gained to the home.

TUESDAY, AUG. 23

Thefts Reported

  • A woman in the 16000 block of LeClaire Avenue reported that a bicycle was stolen from her balcony between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., police said.
  • A resident in the 15400 block of James Drive reported a bicycle stolen sometime overnight.

MONDAY, AUG. 22

Robbery and Aggravated Battery

A man waiting for the bus at the corner of 159th Street and South LeClaire Avenue said a man struck him in the ear with a blunt object at 3:15 p.m. and then took his cell phone. The victim knew the attacker, who left the scene by getting on the bus, according to the report. The suspect was not located, police said.

DUI on Suspended License

Alyson M. Mackey, 31, of the 9900 block of Constitution in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. An officer on patrol between the 15600 and 16300 blocks of Cicero Avenue saw Mackey weaving in and out of the right lane around 2:25 a.m. Mackey later failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Mackey also was charged with driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance.

SUNDAY, AUG. 21

Garage Door Damaged

A resident in the 15400 block of Tudor Road reported that his garage door had been damaged, possibly by a car. The garage door frame was damaged, as was drywall on the inside of the garage. The damage occurred between 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 20 and about 6 p.m. on Aug. 21, according to the report.
