Police Blotter: Alleged Cell Phone Thief Cornered in His Car

FRIDAY, OCT. 28

Cell Phone Theft

Demarques M. Head, 20, of the 3700 block of River Road in Hazel Crest, was charged with theft. Police said Head tried stealing a woman’s cell phone inside a bar in the 15600 block of Cicero Avenue around 11 p.m. A witness reported seeing Head grab the phone off the bar as the woman went to the jukebox and followed Head outside. Police were soon dispatched about a possible fight, and by the time they arrived, several bar patrons were found blocking Head's car from leaving the parking lot, according to the report.

Criminal Trespass

Joseph W. Mena, 50, of the 5100 block of W. 159th Street in Oak Forest, was charged with criminal trespass to real property. Police said they removed Mena from a pharmacy in the 5500 block of 159th Street around 6 p.m. without charges and told him not to return. He did so less than an hour later, and police were called back to arrest him, according to the report.

Retail Theft

Darryl D. Howard, 48, of the 500 block of E. 71st Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Police said Howard left a grocery store in the 5600 block of 159th Street around 2:30 p.m. with several boxes of unpaid over-the-counter drugs, including Prilosec and Mucinex, stuffed into his coat pockets. Due to prior a conviction for theft, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against Howard, according to the report.
