Police Blotter: Abandoned BB Guns, Dipping in Diesel, Elderly Resident Scammed

Monday, Feb. 28

Duped for Diesel

Police said someone piped diesel fuel out of a gas tank, culminating in $5,000 in combined damage and stolen fuel to a truck at Roy's Paving, 4240 166th St. in Oak Forest. A man told police he filled up his 1,000-gallon tank Feb. 25, and locked the facility's gate behind him after he left. Later, police said employees told the man someone had smashed the back of the truck, and when the man investigated, he found the tank hose had been removed, and the gas tank was empty. The man told police he thinks it's been going on for at least six months. 

Abandoned BB Guns

A man told police he found two BB guns in the 15500 block of Central Avenue in Oak Forest.

Stolen Passport

A man told police someone entered his car while it was parked at the Dunkin' Donuts at 5100 W. 159th St. and took his Indian passport from the front seat.

Amazonian Fraud

A man told police someone made 44 unauthorized purchases of $4.99 each with his debit card. All the purchases were through Amazon.com.

Pocketed Pouch

A woman at Monumental Life Insurance, in the 4800 block of 167th Street in Oak Forest, told police someone stole a pouch containing $284.81 and a $50 spa gift card. The pouch was in her black rolling bag in the office conference room.

Thursday, March 3

Elderly Man Mistakes Crook for Water Company Employee

Police said an elderly man in the 5300 block of Diamond Drive was robbed of between $1,400 and $1,700 when someone took the cash after claiming he was checking the home's water pressure. The resident told police the thief knocked on his door and said he had to check the home's water pressure. The elderly man let him in, and the visitor seemed to tamper with the sink and bathtub water pressure, according to reports. After the visitor left, the elderly man man went upstairs to check his drawer, and realized the money was missing, according to reports. He told police the money was an allowance given to him by his daughter, since his wife passed away a few months ago.

Apologetic Hit-and-Run Driver

A woman told police she was waiting to turn left onto Cicero Avenue from 159th Street when someone hit her car from behind. The driver then pulled up next to her, said, "Sorry," and fled the scene, officers said. Police said they were able to track the man's pickup truck and license plate to an address, but have not made contact with the driver yet.
