Police Blotter: Two Men Steal Women's Vitamins

SATURDAY, JUNE 30

Bar Codes Switched on DVDs

David A. Schafer, 58, of 8032 Mozart in Chicago was charged with retail theft. Store security at Jewel Foods told police they saw Schafer changing the bar codes on Blu-Ray DVD movies. The new bar codes caused the five movies, valued at more than $130, to ring up $1.99 each. Schafer than paid for his groceries and had walked past the last register when he was stopped by security at about 2:40 p.m. Schafer was arrested and charged with retail theft.

SUNDAY, JULY 1

Theft Of Vitamins

The manager of the Walgreen’s on 159th Street told police that two men stole several bottles of vitamins. According to the police report, one of the men was seen walking into the vitamin aisle and taking one or two bottles down from the shelf. The man then left without setting off the store alarms. He is described as a 35- to 45-year-old black man who was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

The second man also walked into the vitamin aisle. He was seen taking four or five bottles of Centrum Women’s Health vitamins, valued at $21.99 each, according to the report. A cashier could hear the pills making noise in his pockets as he walked by. The store’s security alarm activated when he tried to leave. He is described as a 35- to 45-year old black man with mustache and wearing a Chicago Blackhawks hat, black shirt and blue jeans. The men were seen driving a rust-colored Chevy that left eastbound on 159th. Police were unable to find the car in the area.

THURSDAY, JULY 5

Battery After Pool Party

Kathleen D. Busch, 51, 15800 Terrace Dr. in Oak Forest was charged with battery. According to police, an argument broke out between Busch and another woman at a pool party earlier in the day. At about 2 p.m., the two got into another argument while drinking when Busch allegedly slapped the other woman. Busch was arrested and taken to the Oak Forest Police Department for booking.
