Oak Forest Woman Accused of Theft from School to Be Back in Court Next Month

Cheryl Becker, 54, was released on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to be back in court next month on charges of felony theft.

 

An Oak Forest woman is out on $15,000 bond and is scheduled to be back in court next month, according to court records.

Police say Cheryl L. Becker, 54, of the 15600 block of Vista Drive in Oak Forest stole two cash deposits from the school, where she works as a cashier, in late August totaling $9,215.70.

She is facing two counts of felony theft. Becker appeared in court on Oct. 26 and court records have Raymond Garza listed as her attorney. In a phone call with Patch Wednesday, Garza confirmed he is Becker's attorney but declined further comment.

Consolidated High School District 230 began an internal forensic audit of money handling after three women were accused of . Becker had alerted police that the women had taken the money, leading to all three being arrested that day and the money was recovered, according to a release from the Orland Park Police Department.

The results of that audit led police to believe Becker had taken cash deposits meant for the bank of $5,179.55 on Aug. 20, and $4,036.15 on Aug. 29, according to a release from the district.

Becker is scheduled to appear in Cook County Judge Peter Felice's Bridgeview courtroom on Nov. 6.
