Fallen Oak Forest police officer Jim Morrissy was carried home to Oak Forest Wednesday, in a procession that wound past City Hall and the Oak Forest Police Department.
Oak Forest city employees, police officers and firefighters lined the parking lot, waiting to greet their beloved colleague and veteran officer of 30 years. Sirens were lit and colleagues stood at attention as Morrissy's caravan drove through the parking lot.
Morrissy, 62, died Monday after his squad car was struck by another vehicle, while he was en route to assist another officer.
"Worst day of my career," Oak Forest Police Chief Greg Anderson said Monday night. "A very sad day for Oak Forest.
"An outstanding officer. He worked as hard today, as he did the first day he got on the job."
Morrissy is survived by wife Janice, and sons Kyle, Marc and Jake. He is a beloved brother to Michael (Maureen), Colleen, Sean (Cathy) Morrissy and the late Donald and Deborah Morrissy; kind uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews.
