Oak Forest Police Chief Eliminated from Search for Texas Top Cop

Chief Greg Anderson will be staying put in Oak Forest after a local candidate was chosen for the chief position in Denton, Texas.

The chief of the  will be sticking around, according to Texas newspaper The Denton Record-Chronicle.

The Denton, Texas, department chose local candidate and Denton County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Lee Howell to fill the department's chief role, over Oak Forest Police Chief Greg Anderson.

Howell and Anderson were two of five finalists for the job, and Howell was the only remaining local candidate following a nationwide search and selection process, according to the report.

The Record-Chronicle reported last week that Anderson had made it through the elimination process from a list of 80 candidates to the final five.

Denton is a pretty big suburb (120,000 people). As someone trying to get out of this tiny dump called oak forest and train wreck of the State of Illinois I understand how disappointing this must be.

This guy has no passion for Oak Forest and he is obviously using us as a stepping stone to serve himself. I feel like he is stabbing us in the back. He should be fired and someone needs to be promoted from within the department. Why was this guy hired here in the first place?? Give the job to a guy who actually cares about Oak Forest. We have some good cops that would love to take the chief's salary.

Let me ask a question. How many city employees actually live in town limits? How many live in Tinley Park, Orland, Frankfort etc? It says something when the employees do not even want to live here but more importantly when the elected officials hire people who they do not demand live with in the limits of the town.

So now that he was turned down for ANOTHER JOB, one would think it'd raise a red flag or some doubt as to the chief's loyalty to Oak Forest, especially since he's fairly new to Oak Forest and he's job hunting already. What would an employer think of him now? To me, I'd question his faith as an employee. Strange as it seems, I feel slighted now.

I tend to agree with you. A larger probably more progressive town considers our Chief. Hmmm. Have to think there is something there. One has to ask what support he has received from the management of Oak Forest. From what some in the PD have told me, not much.

justthefacts- I have come to the conclusion a while ago that this town can not be helped. We are waiting for the economy to improve a little and then our place is going on the market like a lot of people in Oak Forest. I used to think that we could get change and common sense. Common sense says that if you work for a town and it is good enough to provide you with a job where you get GREAT pay, GREAT benefits and a pension you should live in the town. Both Chicago and the State of Illinois have found massive corruption that was going on for years with the use of government vehicles for personal use (this was the case in the Chicago Fire Department where hundred of thousands of dollars were lost). We have city employees here in oak forest using city owned cars to go all over on personal off time because it is a "perk". Again common sense is not seen on this issue. We have elected officials in oak forest who are members of the tea party and are for the federal government and state governments cutting taxes while they allow fees on our comed bills, fees on our nicor, fees on our water bills, fees on our phone bills, fees on gas stations (for cars). Where is the "cut spending on the local level"?

justthefacts continued- Oak Forest was awarded millions for a metra train station where do these tea party members think the money came from? The State and Feds. So its cut the spending..until it comes to oak forest, then its spend to infinity! So with all do respect I dont blame anyone for leaving or trying to get out of this city, this county and this State.
