The Case of the Yellow Marble

A woman in the 5400 block of Grange Avenue told police that someone shot out the driver side, rear window of her van. Police found a large, yellow marble on the carpet.

Found Wallet

A man found a black wallet on the ground outside of the Manchester Court apartment buildings in the 14700 block of Central Avenue. The wallet contained  a Trinity Christian College ID card, a Wisconsin driver's license, two debit cards, bank receipts, assorted business cards and wildlife licenses.

Car vs. Deer

A man told police that while driving north at about 163rd Street and Cicero Avenue, a deer ran out in front of his car and he struck the deer.

Squatter Bust Leads to Warrant Arrest

A woman who was found sleeping in the basement of Manchester Court apartment buildings was arrested on a Will County warrant for failure to appear in court, police said.

Suspicious Characters Lurking Around Vacant House

Two men were lurking around a vacant house, checking doors and windows, a witness told police. The witness confronted one of the men, who said he was checking to see if the house was secure. When police arrived, they found the freon lines for the home's A/C unit had been cut, along with copper wiring. The witness described one man as a black male, 240–250 pounds, 6 feet tall and roughly 50 years old, wearing black pants and a navy jacket, with short cropped hair graying on the sides. Approximate cost to repair damage is $500. Police could not reach property owner.

TUESDAY, NOV. 1

Burglary Disturbs 'Sense of Serenity'

The owner of Sense of Serenity, 15126 S. Cicero Ave., told police that someone broke into the spa and took $500 in cash and two credit card machines. The person entered via a side door, knocking over a table and stealing the cash drawer from a file cabinet.

THURSDAY, NOV. 3

Traffic Stop Leads to Heroin Bust

Jason Pell, 27, of the 6000 block of Forestview Drive, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after police pulled him over for driving with one headlight.

After pulling him over, the officer spotted blood coming from the crease in his right arm, and dried blood along his forearm on his shirt. The officer noticed a spoon used for making drugs in the front seat of the car. After the officer asked Pell twice if there were any drugs in the car, Pell told the officer there were five bags of heroin in the ash tray. The officer found a powdery white substance in tin foil, wrapped inside a clear plastic baggie, and a bag containing several syringes. The substance tested positive for heroin.

Pell also was issued citations for driving with one headlight, no front license plate, and no insurance.

FRIDAY, NOV. 4

Pocketknife at Elementary School

A second-grader at Kerkstra School brought a pocketknife to school, police said. The knife fell out of the student's bag in front of a teacher. The student was suspended and police took the knife.
