UPDATED: Oak Fest Disrupted by Post-Fireworks Stabbing

Oak Fest has closed according to schedule after an incident following the fireworks.

after a post-fireworks stabbing Monday, July 4, Oak Forest Police Chief Greg Anderson has confirmed.

Oak Fest's closing was as scheduled, city staff have reported. Oak Fest is scheduled to close after the fireworks regardless, according to Mayor Hank Kuspa.

Earlier reports indicated that staff shut down the fest early following a post-fireworks stabbing.

There was an incident, Kuspa said, but the police had it under control.

Two people were stabbed following the fireworks at Oak Fest Monday night, a source at the scene has confirmed.

City officials have shut down Oak Fest early, immediately following the fireworks, after an incident involving public safety.

City Clerk Scott Burkhardt confirmed that the fest was shut down early.

Fest-goers are speculating that two people were stabbed in a confrontation following the fireworks. Burkhardt could not immediately confirm the details.

"We closed Oak Fest after the fireworks," said Burkhardt. "Everyone is safe, that's the important thing."
