Newspaper Dispute Leads to Trouble on a School Bus: Weird Crimes

March 14: Guillermo Vega, 28, of the 1900 block of South High Street in Blue Island, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a report. Police stopped Vega at about 7:10 p.m. near 14800 South Kedzie Avenue after he was seen weaving in traffic. During the stop, police noticed a smell of alcohol and two, empty 750-ml glass bottles of MD 20/20 Orange Jubilee inside the car.

An officer asked for Vega’s birthday, to which he replied, “I already gave my birthday to you. It’s Guillermo.” The officer asked again “So, your date of birth is Guillermo?” and the driver replied “Yes.”

When Vega left the car to perform field sobriety tests, officers noticed that he had exposed himself, the report stated. Officers also took a pit bull that was in the back seat of the car into custody.

Vega was arrested and taken to the Midlothian Police Department, where he refused to take a breath test.

Woman Tries to Get on School Bus

March 8: Maryte Zablockas, 62, of Palos Hills, was charged with two counts of battery, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of criminal trespass, according to a report. She is accused of grabbing children who took her newspaper and then trying to get onto the bus.

Officers were called at about 8:40 a.m. to the area of 99th Street and Walnut Terrace, according to the report. The bus driver, who told police what happened, had stopped her from getting on board. The parents of the children were notified and signed complaints against Zablockas. She is due in Bridgeview court on April 4.

That Ain't Nobody's Pot

Feb. 24: Martynas Sadzevicius, 19, of the 14600 block of Oakley Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with possession of marijuana and driving without a seat belt, according to a report. Sadzevicius was stopped at about 9:22 p.m. near 8800 159th St. The officer reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.

Police found a green leafy substance the center console during a search, according to the report. Both Sadzevicius and the passenger denied owning the marijuana. The leafy substance tested positive for the presence of marijuana nad weighted about 2.5 grams.

Coffee To Go

March 6: Morgan A. Sullins, 32, of the 2200 block of Collett Lane in Flossmoor, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. An employe of Super Target, 7300 West 191th St., told police he allegedly saw Sullins fill up a basket at about 5:30 p.m., pay for some of the groceries and then grab a coffee at Starbucks before walking outside. She is accused of not paying for $175.28 worth of items, including two rugs and 26 dinner plates and bowls.

She is due in Will County court on April 10.

Laughing, Talkative Driver Charged with DUI

March 16: Tadeusz Tylka, 44, of the 7200 block of 173rd Street in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and improper lane use, according to a report. Tylka was seen striking the curb twice by an officer at about 2:21 a.m. on Harlem Avenue, near 171st Street.

During a traffic stop, the officer noted Tylka’s bloodshot, watery eyes and a smell of alcohol coming from his breath. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests, during which he was laughing and “very talkative.” He was arrested, taken to the Tinley Park Police Department and given a breath test. He is due in Bridgeview court on April 3.
