Traffic Stop Leads to Possession Charge

Andrew J. Lynch, 18, of the 14800 block of S. Troy Avenue, Posen, was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis under 30 grams and speeding, following a traffic stop in the 140 block of S. Pulaski Avenue.

Police originally pulled Lynch over after clocking him driving 40 mph in a 30 mph zone.

During the stop, officers smelled the scent of fresh cannabis coming from the vehicle. Officers asked Lynch about the smell and he admitted to having a blunt in his center console.

Police confiscated the blunt and had Lynch follow them to the police department, where he was issued citations and released on bond, pending a March 19 court date.

Booze Purchased with Fake Credit Card

Police were called to Madori's Liquor & Deli, 14710 S. Cicero Avenue, after the owner reported a deceptive practice had taken place within the last month.

The owner told police that five purchases were made by a group of black males over the last month, totally $4,919.56. The owner said the purchases were made using a fraudulent credit card, according to the report.

The owner said he was unaware it was a fake card and that he even called the credit card company at one point to verify the card.

The owner said the men told him they were purchasing liquor for a party at a Harvey night club, according to the report.

SUNDAY, FEB. 10

A Knife, A Baseball Bat and One Angry Dude

Richmond J. Artis, 28, of the 4000 block of S. Indiana Avenue, Chicago, was charged with aggravated assault after an incident in the 14600 block of S. Keystone Avenue.

Police were called to the residence after a complainant reported Artis threatened the victim.

A woman told police that her children's father was picking up the kids, when Artis, who was staying with her at the time, came outside the home and said, 'I'm going to gut you like a pig,' to the father. Artis was holding a knife and baseball bat at the time of the threat.

The witness said that Artis then left the scene, as did the victim, separately, and that was when she called police.

Artis came back to the home while police were there. He was taken into custody and officers found a four-inch knife in the center console of his car, where he told officers it would be.

The victim then returned and told police the same story about the incident, at which time Artis was taken to the Midlothian Police Department.

Artis was processed and released on bond, pending a March 19, court date.

The Car Nearly Hit Me, I Had To Punch It

Bryan M. Kaldec, 26, of the 14600 block of S. Kildare Avenue, was charged with criminal damage to property, while Richard J. Deces, 22, of the 14400 block of S. Springfield Avenue, and Nikolas J. Verdone, 23, of the 14600 block of S. Springfield Avenue, were both charged with disorderly conduct, following an incident in the 14600 block of S. Springfield Avenue.

A man told police that Kaldec punched the windshield of his car, breaking it. Deces and Verdone arrived while officers were on the scene, and ran towards a different location, yelling they were, 'going to get him,' according to the report.

Down the street, officers were speaking with Kaldec, who said that the car ran him over and he punched the windshield to protect himself. While speaking with Kaldec, Deces and Verdone arrived and began yelling at Kaldec. Officers tried to control Deces and Verdone, but were unable to. Both were then taken into custody for disorderly conduct.

While speaking with officers, Kaldec changed his story twice, first changing it to the car almost hit him and then that he didn't punch the windshield at all.

All three men were taken to the Midlothian Police Station, where they were charged, processed and released, pending court dates.

Who Steals a Van from a Cemetery?

Rudolph R. Memmen, 49, of the 3200 block of N. Keating Avenue, Chicago, was charged with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and driving while license revoked, following an incident in the 14700 block of S. Laramie Avenue, Oak Forest.

Police were called to the scene a witness reported a suspicious person walking around a home.

At the home, Oak Forest police and Midlothian police located Memmen, who said he was looking for his friend, who resides at the home. The witness told officers that the resident was on vacation and that Memmen was previously told to stay away from the home.

Memmen admitted he knew he was supposed to stay away, according to the report.

Memmen was driving a van reported stolen from a cemetery in River Grove. Memmen told officers that a tall, thin, white man said he could use the van until 5 p.m. that day.

Officials at the cemetery told police that a worker left the keys in the van for a short period of time and when he returned, the van was gone.

Memmen was taken to the Midlothian Police Department, where he was process and released on bond, pending a Feb. 10 court date at the Markham Courthouse.
