Thief Snatches Purse from Kitchen: Oak Forest Police Blotter

WEDNESDAY, Oct. 24

Kitchen Burglary Number One

Police were called to a home in the 16400 block of Barton Lane after a resident reported a burglary. At the home, officers spoke with the victims who said they heard a window break in their kitchen, at which point they came downstairs.

In the kitchen of the home, the victims found a broken window and a purse missing from the kitchen table. Police took a storm window from the scene in the hopes of finding fingerprints on the window.

The victims told officers they already called and canceled their bank and credit cards that were in the purse.

Kitchen Burglary Number Two

Police were called to a residence in the 4400 block of Richard Avenue, after a homeowner noticed two windows were missing from a recently purchased home. At the scene, officers spoke with the victim who said they bought the home and had not yet moved in.

The victim told officers that the last time they were in the home was Oct. 15 and that they periodically drive by to check on the home. After seeing the lights off, the victim inspected the home and found the kitchen windows to be missing and the rear door unlocked after previously being screwed shut.

Police searched the home for unknown suspect(s), but did not locate anyone. The matter was forwarded to investigations.

SUNDAY, Oct. 21

Thief Checks Out the Jewel Self-Checkout Line

Police responded to a theft at Jewel, 5616 159th Street, after an employee at the store saw an African-American male and female remove a wallet from a customer's purse, according to reports.

At the scene, the witness told police the victim was in the self-checkout line, when the male suspect reached into her purse and removed the wallet. He then handed it to the female who was walking by and the pair then exited the store.

The victim told officers the purse was valued at $100 and contained several credit cards. Police told the victim to cancel the cards and forward the matter to investigations.
