Kids Can't Buy Cigs in Oak Forest

Oak Forest Police cited only one of 22 stores in the city for selling cigarettes to minors during a Feb. 20, 'Kids Can't Buy Them Here,' compliance check.

Oak Forest gas stations, liquor stores and convenience stores were put to the test by Oak Forest police Feb. 20, and most passed with flying colors.

During the evening hours of Feb. 20, police conducted the second round of their 'Kids Can't Buy Them Here,' campaign. The test included 22 stores in the city, with only one location cited for selling to a minor.

The lone business to be cited for selling to minors was 7/11, 4901 W. 167th Street. Fines for selling tobacco to minors can range from $200 to $500, according to a press release from the police department.

Stores in compliance included: Jewel Express, Circle K, Osco Drug Store, Eddy’s Liquor & Tobacco, Shell Gas Station—159th St., Convenient Food Mart, 7-11—Central Ave., Foremost Liquors, Food 4 Less, BP Amoco Gas Station, Swagat Foods, Walgreens, Citgo Gas Station, Shell Gas Station—167th St., CVS Pharmacy, Rose Liquors, Taps Pub, Mobile Gas Station, Phillips 66, and Marathon Gas Station, according to the release.
