Drunken Woman Panics After Losing Son: Midlothian Police

Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating after 32-year-old Michelle Shockley lost track of her son while drinking, according to Midlothian police.

A drunken Midlothian woman panicked and began ringing a neighbor's doorbell, saying she couldn't find her son Friday evening, according to reports.

Michelle L. Shockley, 32, of the 14600 block of S. Karlov Avenue, told police she picked up her son from school after drinking a half-pint of Skol and sharing a 24-ounce can of Icehouse with another drinker. The neighbor called police after Shockley repeatedly rang her doorbell, saying she couldn't find her son.

Police arrived and tried to talk to her and realized Shockley was too inebriated to form complete, coherent sentences, according to the report.

Police were able to find the boy, and he was taken into protective custody. Shockley was also taken into custody and both were brought to the Midlothian Police Station. The police report did not list the boy's age.

Shockley blew a .232 and was issued a citation for drunkenness and given a court date of Nov. 5. Her son was picked up by his father—Shockley's boyfriend—and taken home.
