Hoarders' Home in Dolton Burns Down

Everything stuffed inside the house only fed the flames, officials told NBC.

Firefighters Wednesday morning struggled to put out a house fire in Dolton, after officials said crews "couldn't get more than two feet inside the house."

The home in the 14600 block of Lincoln was "packed to the gills," Dolton Fire Chief Terry Hughes told NBC.

“We got to the front door and couldn’t get any farther than two feet in the house. ... We started to lose the house because there was so much stuff in the house,” he said. “All the stuff inside ignited.”

One person suffered slight burns and smoke inhalation, and was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health. The house was a total loss.

Officials are uncertain how many people lived there.
