Driver Tries to Split After Crash, Charged with DUI: Blotter

MONDAY, APRIL 29

Marijuana Recovered From Sleeping Man

Eric J. Bartkowiak, 26, of the 7600 block of West 173rd Street in Tinley Park, was charged with possession of 30 to 500 grams of marijuana and was cited for improper parking on the roadway, according to a report.

Police spotted a black Chrysler at about 11:39 p.m., parked facing east in the westbound lane of Springfield Avenue, and the driver appeared to be sleeping, the report stated. An officer saw a plastic bag in the car containing a green leafy substance that, later, was determined to be 44 grams of marijuana.

TUESDAY, APRIL 23

Cocaine Possession Charge

Charles R. Wilke, 37, of the 3800 block of West 153rd Place in Midlothian, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, obstructing a police officer and leaving the scene of a crash, according to a report.

Police were called at about 3 p.m. to the area of 150th Street and Pulaski Road for a crash. A witness to the crash called in and helped police track a car that had left the area, the report stated.

During a traffic stop, police discovered a plastic bag that contained a white powdery substance that tested positive for 2.8 grams of cocaine, the report stated.

Another person in the car, Jennifer L. Kentner, 30, of the 3800 block of 153rd Place in Midlothian, was charged with obstructing a police officer and allowing a drunken person to drive, according to the report. The two had reportedly switched seats after the crash.

Wilke and Kentner had been on their way home after having lunch at a local bar and picking up Wilke’s son from school, the report stated.

SUNDAY, APRIL 21

DUI After Crash, Driver Tries to Split

Richard F. Calder, 27, of the 14600 block of Kildare Avenue in Midlothian, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, leaving the scene of a crash, speeding and driving without insurance, according to a report.

Police were called at about 7:47 p.m. to the area of 149th Street and Kilpatrick Avenue for a report of a single-car crash. When police arrived, they reported seeing a man trying to run away.

Calder performed field sobriety tests, after which he was arrested, the report stated. He took a breath test while in police custody, the report continued.

Calder is due Markham court on May 13.
