Driver Counts Cash During DUI Stop

An Oak Forest man accused of driving under the influence fumbled with his cards and refused to take any tests for sobriety during a recent stop, police said.

An Oak Forest man who refused to comply with police requests is accused of drunken driving, according to police.

John H. Mooncotch, 49, of Oak Forest, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without proof of insurance, speeding and improper lane use, according to an Oak Forest police report.

Cops spotted a silver Range Rover driving at a high rate of speed at about 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the 4900 block of 167th Street, the report states. Police clocked it using radar going 51 mph in a 35 mph zone. They also noticed it cross the center yellow road line.

The Range Rover was pulled over and found that the driver, Mooncotch, had a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his breath, the report states. He fumbled through his cards in an attempt to hand over his driver's license. When asked for proof of insurance, he started coating cash from the center console of the SUV.

Mooncotch got out of the Range Rover and appeared unbalanced when he walked, the report states. He refused to take tests for sobriety and was handcuffed. He also refused to get into the back of an Oak Forest police squad car. Police then placed him inside the squad. Mooncotch claimed he was injured in the process but, later, refused medical attention.

During booking at the Oak Forest Police Department, Mooncotch invoked his 5th Amendment right and was processed, the report states.
