Man Cashes Phony Checks for $2,000: Oak Forest Police Blotter

Double Checks

A victim from the 16700 block of Laramie Avenue went to Oak Forest Police to report a theft. The victim told officers at the station that a person(s) unknown to the victim made duplicate checks with the victim's name and proper bank information on them. The suspect(s) then cashed three checks for a total of $2,250 over a three-day span from Sept. 21–24. The matter is under investigation.

FRIDAY, Sept. 28

Ex and Boyfriend Brawl

Jerry Sweis, 46, of the 5600 block of Lancaster Drive, was charged with battery, following a fight with the boyfriend of his roommate. Sweis lives with the witness, who is also the mother of his child, and according to the victim and witness, Sweis was angry at the witness for having the victim at their home, which Sweis and the victim share with their child.

The witness and victim told police that Sweis was texting and calling the witness to come home and that when the couple arrived Sweis came out of the home and began chest bumping the victim. A fight ensued and the witness called police. The victim filed complaints for battery and Sweis was taken into custody.

Sweis was processed and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bridgeview Court House.

Unlocked Car Leads to Stolen Wallet

A victim went into the Oak Forest Police Department and notified police about a burglary to their car. The victim said that sometime between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., an unknown person(s) removed a wallet from their car. The wallet contained the victim's drivers license, credit card, social security card and various photographs.

The victim told officers that they were at the library, post office and St. Damian’s Church during the times of the burglary and that the car was unlocked at all of the locations.

After canceling the credit card, the victim notified police that the card was used at a gas station on 151st Street and Central Avenue, and that a cash advance was attempted, although it was declined.

Sister, Sister and Mister Fight

A victim of a domestic incident came to the Oak Forest Police Station after a physical altercation with their two roommates on Sept. 26. The victim told police that their two roommates—one of whom is the victim's twin—who are divorced and have three children, hit and kicked the victim while yelling for the victim to move out of the apartment. The victim also told police that the female roommate was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

The victim said the male roommate held her hands and kneed her in the thighs, while the sister kicked her in the legs and lower back, and threw soda in her face. The pair then took the victim's clothes and threw them in the hallway and then locked her out of the apartment.

The victim told officers they did not report the incident right away because they wanted to speak with other family members about pressing charges.

Police went to the apartment but were unable to locate either suspect.
