Do Announced Traffic Crackdowns Make You Drive Safer?

Oak Forest police will be doing special seat belt enforcement patrols during the Labor Day holiday weekend. Will it affect how you drive?

The Oak Forest Police Department will be conducting a seat belt enforcement campaign over the Labor Day holiday weekend as part of the national Click It or Ticket program, according to a city press release.

The campaign will begin Tuesday, Aug. 27, and run through Monday, Sept. 2, with police running saturation patrols in specific areas. This will be the last crackdown by the department for this fiscal year, and it is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the release stated.

Whether it's to check for seat belt compliance or watching out for drunken drivers, do these announced checkpoints and crackdowns change the way you drive? Or is it business as usual when you get behind the wheel?
