Deputy Police Chief Announces Retirement

Deputy Chief David DeMarco said he'll move on from the department, effective July 4.

After nearly 28 years of service, Oak Forest Police Department Deputy Chief David DeMarco has announced his retirement, effective July 4. DeMarco will begin a second career as security manager for Hollywood Casino in Aurora.

“David’s contributions to the department and his unwavering commitment to the residents of Oak Forest will be sorely missed,” said Police Chief Greg Anderson. “Although we’ve only worked together a short time, I can say with certainty that his professionalism and dedication are second to none.”

Before becoming deputy chief in 2005, DeMarco held several positions within the police department, including patrol officer, sergeant and lieutenant. In 2008, he was appointed acting police chief until the city hired Anderson in 2010.

During his tenure with the department, DeMarco was instrumental in creating the city’s Crime Free Housing Program, which assists tenants, owners and managers of rental properties in keeping drugs and other criminal activity away from their rental properties. The program was the first of its kind in the south suburbs and has since been replicated by nearby communities. In addition, DeMarco became the voice of the city’s emergency phone notification system, which sends high-speed emergency messages or notifications to residents.

According to DeMarco, a lifelong Oak Forest resident, his passion for law enforcement started at an early age.
