Have you ever experienced the shock and annoyance of discovering your home broken into or your car ransacked? You're not alone.

It's not just the cops keeping tabs on burglars, pranksters and anyone else who is responsible for bothersome nuisance crime in your neighborhood. You can, too.

The map above shows you where burglaries and criminal damage crimes took place. All of the data was collected from local police reports released in July. It'll be updated continually, so bookmark this page or just remember to come back a few times this month for the new reports we've added.

The blue car icons show were a vehicle was either broken into or damaged in some way. The houses in yellow indicate spots were trouble popped up at or near someone's home. Click one and read the details.

Our map is not limited to Oak Forest. You can click, drag and scan the south suburbs for more reports.

Police report information is provided by area law enforcement agencies, released in the month of July. Some departments release reports several weeks after an arrest takes place. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
