These Cops Get an 'A' for Arresting

April 20: Everybody is a critic, even when they're about to be hit with a DUI charge.

Robert R. Schumacher, 35, of the 6300 block of Kimberly Drive in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and improper lane use, according to a report.

Police stopped Schumacher at about 9:54 p.m. in the 19800 block of South LaGrange Road after seeing his SUV accelerate rapidly and weave in its lane, according to the report. He told police he had four craft beers at a local bar. He performed field sobriety tests, after which he was arrested.

During the arrest, he asked if he could call his “state trooper buddy” but was denied, the report stated. Police said he continued to be belligerent and told officers that “cops are ‘D’ students." Schumacher also took a breath test after initially refusing.

He is due in court May 2 in the Will County courthouse in Joliet.

Props for Making It as Far as She Did

April 26: Would you stop driving if your airbags deployed? Or if an axle might have broken? One determined driver decided she would keep on trucking despite a damaged ride.

Christine Y. Blades, 46, 200 block of South Torrence Avenue in Sauk Village, was charged with driving under the influence, failing to dim headlights, using unsafe equipment and driving with a defective window, according to a report.

Blades was stopped at about 12:11 a.m., near 98th Street and Western Avenue, after an officer reported noticing the vehicle's bright lights were on, the report stated. The officer also saw sparks coming from the rear of the vehicle. The car's axle may have been broken.

Police reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and noticed that two airbags inside the car had deployed. Blades was arrested after performing field sobriety tests, but she refused to take a breath test, police said.

Chicago Man Accused of Threatening CTA Driver

April 22: Ever been so mad you threatened to kill a bus driver?

Cory C. Ulmer, 29, 8500 block of South Paulina Street in Chicago, was charged with assault, according to a report. He was arrested at about 11:02 a.m., near the intersection of 98th Street and Western Avenue.

Ulmer was causing a disturbance on a CTA bus and was told by the driver to get off, the report stated. He then threatened to kill the driver after being denied from getting back on the bus, the report continued.

Good Advice: Don't Litter; Better Advice: Don't Litter When You Have Pot

March 29: Give a hoot. Don't pollute, especially if there's weed in the car.

Raul Armas, 26, of the 9900 block of Exchange Street in Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with an expired license, according to a report. Police stopped Armas’ car around 11:20 a.m. in the 15600 block of Wolf Road after the passenger was seen throwing a plastic bottle out of the window, the report stated.

Armas was arrested after an officer determined his license was expired, according to the report. During the stop, a prescription pill bottle with a green leafy substance inside fell out an open door, the report stated. Police also reported finding a grinder in the back seat. The substance was tested and determined to be 2.7 grams of marijuana, the report stated.

Armas was due in court April 22 at the Bridgeview courthouse.
