Burglary Scam Costs Oak Forest Couple a Bunch of Jewelry

Oak Forest police report, Nov. 1.

An Oak Forest couple fell victim to a burglary scam earlier this month.

A workman knocked on the door of the couple's home in the 15300 block of LeClaire Avenue at about 2 p.m. on Nov. 1, according to an Oak Forest police report.

The man claimed that the neighbor's house flooded and he needed to check the water in the couple's home, the report states. He explained what he was doing and he walked around the couple's house.

As the spoke with the couple, the workman also talked in Spanish with someone else on a walkie-talkie, the report states. The woman believes an accomplice broke into their home through a backdoor the workman unlocked.

Jewelry was discovered missing from couple's bedroom, including a white gold wedding band, the report states.
