Burger King Robbed at Gunpoint: Midlothian Police Blotter

The Burger King on Cicero Avenue in Midlothian was robbed on Dec. 17, with the burglar making off with about $800. There are currently no suspects.

Police were called to Burger King, 14300 S. Cicero Avenue, after employees reported an armed robbery on Dec. 17.

The two employees told officers that a black male, approximately 5-feet-5-inches tall, of medium build and wearing dark clothes, black gloves, a fake beard and possibly a wig, brandishing a small, silver revolver, entered the store at 7:25 a.m. As he entered, he asked the two employees if there was anyone else in the store, and both answered that there were not.

The robber then came behind the counter of the store and removed all the paper money from the register, before ordering the employees towards the office to empty the safe. While emptying the safe, the offender told the employees to unwrap all the paper bills and place them in a plastic bag he was carrying. He instructed the employees to leave all coin currency in the safe.

After loading approximately $800 into the bag, the offender ordered the employees into the walk-in freeze of the store and told them not to come out. The offender locked the employees inside, checking twice to make sure they would stay in the freezer.

After several minutes, the employees exited the freezer and immediately called police. Police were unable to find any fingerprints at the scene due to the offender wearing gloves, and video surveillance of the store was not operating at the time.

Two days prior to the robbery, a transformer blew behind the store, which was reported to police and ComEd. ComEd told officers that there was a report of a blown transformer on Dec. 15, but that a check of the area revealed no such damage.

Police Blotter information is provided by the Midlothian Police Department. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.

From my understanding, this occurred at 7:30AM (not PM). This is when our neighborhoods have kids waiting for school buses. Please be watchful & careful out there, fellow residents.

WOW!! Who would have thought that someone would break the law and carry a concealed or open gun. As of the date of this robbery it was illegal to carry a gun open or concealed outside the home. I thought that limiting guns and not allowing the carry of guns outside the home was supposed to stop this type of thing from happening? Oh, what am i thinking, criminals do not care about the laws, that is why they are criminals. I feel so much safer knowing that a guy with a gun is robbing stores, and may decide to start breaking into homes, or maybe rob people at a store parking lot, but the law abiding citizen can't carry a gun.

Mandy,
You are correct. It was a morning incident, I apologize for the error. I've corrected the post to reflect the proper time. Thanks for the heads up. - Jeff Graveline Oak Forest Patch

And to carry on yesterday's theme, a robbery by a short black guy at 730, a fire started between 8 and 9 on central, and then convicts spotted shortly after in tinley park. Oh my god. Oh my god! It was them. They did it all, can't wait to hear all those comments today. Where's the guy with family that knows cops? I think everyone on earth knows cops. Hell, my bestfriend's dad's cousin is a cop in Midlothian. Doesn't make you an expert. Thank you and good day. Let the news be reported and let's not ruin it with your pro gun anti gun crap. Not like any of you would have helped catch the felons if you had or didn't have a gun yesterday.
Michael M. December 19, 2012 at 07:08 pm
You don't know that no one would have caught or stopped him. The point is that the law to ban guns does not work. Only the law abiding will follow the law, but not a criminal. There are numerous stories of people stopping crimes with guns, they just don't get reported my the MSM.

No crap, I understand, the point of my comment was despite all the events that took place yesterday. 75% of the comments were made towards gun control and conceal and carry. I understand people want to use this as a platform for whatever their beliefs on gun control are, but in the long run no one was hurt and the cons weren't captured. Yesterday should be a day for info, specifics, details, and procedure about what was going on, the man hunt, school lockdowns, or any information that would be helpful. Not propaganda, left wing right wing gun control arguments. There is a time and a place. I was and am very disappointed in the citizens of this community in the handling of this.

Sounds like the workers were behind it.

Why be dissappointed in people exercising their 1st amendment rights? You should celebrate that.

My sister works there and I don't think it was the workers cause they would have wanted more money and would know when they had busiest time but the while transforming blowing prior does seem like premeditated robbery. So it was planned.

Disappointed once again to not see 7th heaven on the roster. They have the best vocals out there,Read More even without their lead singer Keith Semple who defected to start a solo act. This band actually gets radio air play. Haven't heard any of the others at Oakfest on the radio.

I dare anyone to name a more dangerous intersection then that. The turn from 147th st west bound toRead More southbound Oak Park is the worst I've seen.
